Words have the power to harm and to heal. The Bible teaches that the human tongue is an unruly member with the power to set the world on fire! With words we bless and condemn others. Those we love are the people we wound deeply with angry, destructive words. Words is the title and subject of Sherry’s poem today. In only a few words, Sherry speaks volumes about how couples hurt one another with angry words.
Words

I’m hurt, I’m sad, you make me mad
Why do we have to fight?
We are a TEAM. You are my DREAM.
I want to do what’s RIGHT.
Whenever I am feeling LOW you are always there
To COMFORT and PROTECT so well, You’re the answer to my prayer!
You say I try to manipulate just to get MY way,
If this is so, and I’m USING you, tell my why you stay!
The LAST thing I ever want to be is a controlling, manipulative wife.
I REALIZE you been hurt before by WOMEN trying to run your LIFE.
It’s difficult when ANGERED to THINK before we SPEAK
Hateful WORDS can never be taken back. What havoc they can REAP!
So I give this to God, SOMEONE I TRUST to help and ease the SORROW,
You can have YOUR way,
HEAD-GAMES I won’t PLAY
I will look FORWARD to a HAPPIER tomorrow!

Hi Sherry,
Thank you for this reminder on the power of words and the damage we can cause when we speak before we think. As a writer, I share a lot of words every day and it is good for me to remember that I am accountable for how those words influence people and make them feel.

Sherry this is very thoughtful reading. You are so talented and I am happy that you have found an outlet to express yourself so beautifully….Helen
Thanks so much Helen. I appreciate your response. I’ve written poetry for over 45 years! Self expression comes in many forms and mine is poetry.
